Hospital/Ambulatory Veterinary Technician

Running ‘S’ Equine Veterinary Services is an ambulatory and hospital practice seeking a full-time veterinary technician. The practice offers state-of-the-art equipment for all our procedures. Our facility is in the heart of horse country and one of the most beautiful areas of the state. We work on your retired, pasture friend through your high-performance horse. Our practice includes a full surgical suite, an eight-stall hospital, an in-clinic procedure room, and fully equipped ambulatory vet vehicles.

You will assist in all types of procedures, diagnostics, and surgeries, where no day will be the same. Schedule

  • 8-hour shifts (possible overtime if desired)
  • (1) weekly night shift (hours vary depending on hospital needs)
  • (1) weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday, 7-4 or night shift)

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Jogging and lunging horses for the Veterinarian to evaluate
  • Restraining horses for procedures
  • Drawing blood and preparing tissue samples
  • Perform laboratory tests
  • Sterile technique prep for injections
  • Setting up Radiograph, Ultrasound Imaging, and other diagnostics (ability to carry up to 40 lbs.)
  • Cleaning and maintaining hospital equipment
  • Monitoring hospitalized patients
  • Maintaining accuracy on medical records and hospital billing
  • Performing intensive care procedures for critical patients
  • Assisting in surgeries

Experience

  • Equine handling skills: 2+ years (required)

Licensed Veterinary Technician

Running ‘S’ Equine Veterinary Services is an ambulatory and hospital practice seeking a full-time licensed veterinary technician. A forty hour work week including at least one overnight shift, weekend shifts required and rotational on call; overtime is often necessary (compensation provided).

The hospital offers 24-hour emergency service, including an 8-stall inpatient hospital and surgery unit. There are three veterinarians in the practice, and technical support is required primarily in-hospital, but on-the-road work may be needed as well.

The job responsibilities include; restraining, taking blood samples, preparing tissue samples, performing laboratory tests, providing specialized nursing care and post-operative care for the patients, scrubbing for injections, among other tasks.

Equine Sports Medicine Apprentice

Seeking motivated recent veterinary graduate with a strong interest in Equine Sports Medicine to assist in busy Equine Sport Medicine practice. Suitable individual will assist with lameness and musculoskeletal examinations, diagnostic anesthesia, radiographic and ultrasonographic imaging and treatment procedures and surgeries. Other imaging modalities including MRI, nuclear scintigraphy and CT are available nearby and utilized by referral. The apprentice will be involved in the management of general equine and hospital cases as well. Rotation into the after-hours and weekend on-call schedule will be required.

The opportunity exists to transition to an Associate Veterinarian in the practice, upon completion of the Apprenticeship.

Graduate DVM or VMD with some experience with a strong interest in sport horses and horse sport. Emergency fees are paid monthly and directly to the veterinarian and are in addition to base salary. Licence fees, professional dues, professional liability, health and disability insurance, continuing education, vacation, professional vehicle provided.
